God has been gracious to me and allowed me to live a wonderful fulfilling life with my husband Roger for the last 50 years. We met in my Freshman year at Elmhurst when he was a Sophomore, and we married August 6, 1960, after I graduated. We have two wonderful children, Michael and Debra. I graduated from IPFW with my BS in Secondary Education in 1973 and started teaching in the Fort Wayne Community Schools in the Fall. I got my MS from St. Francis College in 1977 and my Ed.S. in School Administration from IU in 1979. During my 30 years in education, I taught in both middle school and high school (including Elmhurst) in the Fort Wayne Community Schools, retiring as Assistant Principal at Portage Middle School in 2003. I am a breast cancer survivor and former owner of Encore Tours & Travel where Roger and I had the pleasure of planning group tours and escorting the tours to wonderful destinations like Hawaii, Alaska, Caribbean, Europe, Canadian Rockies, and 48 of our beautiful states in the USA. We are both retired and living on Lake George and enjoying our family, friends, and great grandchildren. I am busy being Queen of my Red Hat Group in Steuben County and reading and scrapbooking in my spare time. Our Granddaughter Michelle graduated from Elmhurst in 2003, and she enjoyed her four years there as much as I did in the 1950's. Ah, such good memories...Happy 50th Everyone!
PATRICIA L. McKINNEY, 72, passed away Thursday, Feb. 26, 2015, at her home surrounded by her family. Born in Fort Wayne, Patricia was a Teacher working her way to Assistant Principal at Portage Middle School for a total of 30 years before retiring in 2003. She was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Angola. She was the past matron of F.W. Chapter OES #432, and former Queen of Red Hat Club, "Tri-State Saucey Spring Chicks." Surviving are her husband, Roger W. McKinney of Fremont; son, Michael (Lynda) McKinney of Fort Wayne; daughter, Debra Marie McKinney of Fort Wayne, two granddaughters; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Ethelyn Frankenberg. Calling is from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 3, 2015, at D.O. McComb & Sons Pine Valley Park Funeral Home, 1320 E. Dupont Road with an Eastern Star Service at 7:30 p.m. Cemetery Service is 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Greenlawn Memorial Park, with calling from 11 a.m. until the service. Memorials may be made to the Calvary Lutheran Church in Angola, Indiana or Steuben County Cancer Association.
