Kent E. Kurtz, 73, of Fort Wayne, a retired teacher, died Wednesday, April 18, 2011, at St. Joseph Hospital.

The Burket native had taught English, speech and drama classes at Elmhurst High School and also taught at Culver Military Academy summer school for 17 years. He was assistant principal at Northrop High School, Miami Middle and Ben Geyer schools. He was a member of the Retired Teachers Association and a lifelong member of Phi Delta Kappa. Surviving are his wife, Darlene; a stepson, Charles Critchley of Fort Wayne; a sister, Mildred Frantz of Dayton, Ohio; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Services are 10 a.m. Saturday at D.O. McComb & Sons Maplewood Park Funeral Home, 4017 Maplecrest Road, with calling from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. today. Burial will be at I.O.O.F. Cemetery, New Haven. Memorials are to the American Heart Transplant Division of the American Heart Association.
